The Ilha da Armona on which Praia is situated is one of the three coasts that surround the Faro. This island together forms a part of the extensive Ria Formosa National Park. This park is a small archipelago of lagoon. Armona is also known as the sandbank islands, have all the necessary features, sandy beaches and made peaceful by their relative inaccessibility.
